Response:
  I did suggest an idea for stopping the gulf oil leak but it has not received much attention. I did notice in today's NY Times that someone did suggest a similar idea. The chart below summarizes my suggestion:

Sandia did do a preliminary analysis showing that the idea actually works. A video of the simulation can be found here. The simulation calculation was done with guesses for the distances and the amount of explosives needed. We think that a parameter study will provide data for a complete closure of the leaking pipe.
